Sound piece - final edit

After 'showing' my sound piece to the class last week and receiving feedback I realized that it was too complicated and not very experiemntal. This is my final edit:

The video I did last week but after receiving feedback during the session I realized it was to complicated, it had too much to it. It was only the first edit and all I did was take all the bits of the footage that I liked and found interesting and put them together. This week I took my favourite videos and sounds out of that and used quite a lot of effects for both sound and video to make it more abstract

The third piece of the assignment was to make a video with audio. My technique was to put in order all the videos I liked and then swap the audios around. This is what came out

Skye Audio

As a part of the assessment for the Skye trip we have to produce a 3min audio piece using the recordings from the trip. Here is mine (I suggest listening to it with headphones to get full effect) It was interesting to edit as I haven't used Audition Before. I've used Audacity a couple of years ago on my BA. Luckly they are quite similar, plus Audition is from Adobe so I knew shortcuts from using Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere Pro.

Bridges - a journey recorded

In childhood I'd find different ways of making time go by faster when travelling long distances. I found myself doing the same thing on my way to Skye on a university trip with my course. My focus were all the bridges that were going over the motorway. I am a big fan of 'design-hacking' so I am design-hacking the bridges, taking away their use of transportation and using them as a visual tool for time-passage and recording the journey. They are usually taken for granted ( I did it as well until someone close to me whom I was travelling with pointed them out to me). We don't notice the variety in the design and architectural aesthetics. Not only it records the journey, but it also shows the landscape, environment and weather we went through whilst traveling. I will use this as one of the three videos produced as a response to the assignment, and to the trip to Skye. Enjoy

Post Skye

We returned from Skye a couple of days ago. The only thing I can say is that it's been a really good experience. Beautiful landscapes, really interesting activities and informal lectures/discussions in a glass dome in the garden of the hostel. We've seen a salmon farm, which really impressed us; we didn't expect it to be so high-tech. Went and filmed and recorded sound on the beaches near by the hostel, during the day and during the night. We also went walking in the Cuilling Mountains, by the fairy pools where it is possible to go swimming. None of us did though. We were too preocupied with filming and recording sound. We had Nick's underwater HD camera which was very exciting to use..the footage looks very good. On the last day we went to the south of the island, at the university there. A group of music students who study traditional galic music performed especially for us, so we recorded and filmed them singing. It was quite moving. None of us could understand the language but it sounded so good that it didn't matter. As a result of all the filming and recording we've done on this trip we will have to produce three pieces: 1. Film with no sound 2. Just sound 3. Film and sound, but they have to have been recorded at different times. I have a couple of ideas thinking back at the footage I took, but I'm sure I'll have more ideas when I watch it all again. It will be hard to choose as we filmed and recorded so much in the 6 days we were away.
